В 1589 году молодой англичанин, Вильям Ли придумал замечательное изобретение, но оказался безумно неудачным человеком. Чтобы сделать жизнь любимой девушки, занимающейся вязанием чулок, гораздо проще, Вильям изобрел станок, способный связывать около тысячи петель в минуту. Королеву Елизавету изобретение не впечатлило, т.к. не плела из шелка, а значит в патенте было отказано. Вскоре Ли даже построил машину для вязания шелковых чулок, но королеве уже было не до этого. Вильяму поступает приглашение от французского короля Генриха IV, которое он принимает. Вильям успевает даже открыть фабрику в Руане, но короля практически тут же убивают, и Мария Медичи сразу лишает протестанта-Ли покровительства. Теперь ему надо спасать и дело, и жизнь. Он перебирается в Париж и умирает там от разрыва сердца. Вильям Ли стал основателем чулочной промышленности во Франции и благодаря его изобретению уже в 17 веке каждый желающий был обеспечен парой чулок. En 1589 jeune Anglais William Lee créa une invention remarquable mais s'avéra un homme malchanceux. Pour faciliter la vie de son amoureuse, tricoteuse des bas, William inventa une machine capable à tricoter mille mailles par minute. La reine Élisabeth ne fut pas impressionnée étant donné qu’elle ne pouvait pas travailler avec la soie. C’est pour cela qu’elle refusa le brevet. Peu de temps après Lee réussit à construire une machine à tricoter des bas en soie mais la reine était occupée par d’autres choses. William reçut l’invitation du roi de la France Henri IV qu’il accepta. Lee parvint à ouvrir une manufacture à Rouen, mais le roi fut assassiné aussitôt. Marie de Médici priva protestant-Lee de la protection royale. Maintenant il dut sauver non seulement son travail mais aussi sa vie. Il déménagea à Paris et mourut d’un arrêt cardiaque. William Lee devint le fondateur de l’industrie des bas en France et grâce à lui au 17eme siècle il y avait une paire des bas pour tous ceux qui la désiraient. In the 1589, young Englishman William Lee created a remarkable invention and turned out to be a very unlucky person. In order to facilitate the life of his beloved woman (who was a stocking knitter), he developed the machine, which could make about a thousand stitches in a minute. Queen Elizabeth was not impressed by this invention because it could not use silk. Therefore, she refused the patent. Soon Lee succeeded to build a machine for silk stockings knitting but the Queen was busy with other things. Then William received an invitation from the French king Henry IV, which he accepted. William had time to open a manufacture in Rouen but the king was assassinated straight away. Marie de Medici immediately deprive Protestant-Lee of patronage. Now he needed to save not only his work but also his life. William moved to Paris and died from a heart failure. William Lee became a founder of the French stocking industry and thanks to him in the 17th century, there was a pair of stockings for all comers.

Идеи викторианской эпохи имели огромное влияние на моду того времени. Так, например, в моду вошли наряды с большим количеством пуговиц, чтобы не было желание нарушать мораль и не было возможности быстро раздеть женщину. Сапоги спереди тоже имели ряд пуговиц. Женские сапоги на пуговицах понемногу стали этаким корсетом для ног. В конце 19 начале 20 века количество пуговиц на таком сапоге могло достигать двадцати пяти штук. Для облегчения застёгивания использовался крючок. Длина этих крючков была самой разной. Чтобы застегнуть сапоги, крючок продевали через петлю, обхватывая ножку нужной пуговицы, и легким движением руки продевали пуговицу через петлю. Процесс этот был достаточно непростой задачей. К тому же, как только обувь была застёгнута, ее надо было носить весь день. Кроме того, что эти крючки были функциональными, они еще были и очень красивыми. Рукоятки крючков изготавливали из дерева, слоновой кости ну и конечно из серебра. Les idées de l’époque Victorienne avaient de l’influence sur la mode de ce temps-là. Ainsi par exemple, les toilettes avec un grand nombre de bouton sont devenues à la mode. Cela avait lieu pour empêcher d’avoir des envies à violer la morale et d’avoir la possibilité de déshabiller rapidement la femme. Les bottes avaient aussi des boutons devant. Les bottes à boutons de femme sont devenues tel un corset pour les jambes. À la fin du 19ème début de 20ème siècle, le nombre de boutons sur de tel botte pouvait aller jusqu’à 25. Pour rendre le boutonnage plus facile ils utilisaient un tire-bouton. La longueur de ces tire-boutons pouvait variée. Pour boutonner la botte, on faisait passer le tire-bouton par la boutonnière en entourant la tige du bouton et par un petit mouvement de la main on retirait le bouton par la boutonnière. Ce processus n’était pas une tâche facile. En outre dès le moment quand les chaussures étaient boutonnées, on devait les porter toute la journée. Hormis que ces tire-boutons étaient fonctionnels, ils étaient aussi très jolis. La poignée des tire-boutons était faite de bois, d’ivoire et bien sûr d’argent. Ideas of the Victorian times had influenced the fashion of that time. Thus, the apparel with many buttons became fashionable in order to prevent the desire to break the morals and the possibility to undress the woman quickly. Boots also had buttons at the front. Women’s boots with buttons became such a corset for the legs. In the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the number of buttons on one boot could be around 25. To button up more easily they used a buttonhook. There were various length of these buttonhooks. To button up a boot they passed the hook through the buttonhole wrapping the shank of a button and after a small hand movement, they took the button out of the buttonhole. This process was not easy. Moreover, after the boots were buttoned up they needed to wear them all day long. Besides that, these buttonhooks were functional they were also beautiful. Handles for buttonhooks were made of wood, stone, ivory and of course silver.

Кубизм в моде. Cubisme dans la mode. Cubism in fashion.


С 1908 по 1920 мода стала отказываться от громоздких и увеличивающих фигуру силуэтов и приблизительно в это же время попадает под влияние культуры Кубизма. Многие знакомы с влиянием Кубизма на визуальное представление моды: в фотографии и иллюстрации. Но та же неопределенность форм, которую Кубизм проповедовал в живописи и скульптуре, применяются в те же года и в моде. Коллаж, динамические геометрические формы, энергия, - все эти черты Кубизма мы можем найти и в одежде и текстиле того времени. Многие артисты-кубисты обращались к моде и применяли художественные приемы для создания тканей. Даже современные дизайнеры иногда возвращаются к принципам Кубизма для создания новых коллекций. De 1908 jusqu’à 1920 la mode a commencé à abandonner les silhouettes encombrantes et agrandissant la figure. Plus ou moins en même temps la mode est tombée sous l’influence de la culture du Cubisme. Beaucoup connaissent l’influence du Cubisme sur la présentation visuelle de la mode : des photos et des illustrations. Cette même incertitude des formes dont le Cubisme a prêché dans la peinture et la sculpture, a été appliquée pendant la même époque dans la mode. Le collage, les formes géométriques dynamiques, l’énergie, nous pouvons trouver tous ces traits du Cubisme dans les vêtements et le textile de cette époque. Beaucoup d’artistes-cubistes s’adressaient à la mode et adaptaient des effets d’art pour créer le tissu. Même des designers modernes reviennent parfois vers les principes de Cubisme pour la création de nouvelle collection. From the 1908 until the1920 fashion started to abandon bulky and aggrandizing body silhouettes. Around the same period, fashion came under the Cubism culture influence. Many of us know the Cubism influence on visual representation of fashion: photos and illustrations. Although the same indeterminacy of forms which was propagated by Cubism in painting and sculpture, was employed in fashion during the same time. Collage, dynamic geometric shapes, energy all these features of Cubism can be find in clothes and textile of that period. Many Cubist artists addressed fashion and applied artistic techniques to create fabrics. Even modern designers sometimes come back to Cubism principles to create new collection.

Возникновение названия Maybelline. L'origine du nom Maybelline. The origin of Maybelline's name.


Том Лайл увидел потенциал продукта, после наблюдения за сестрой, Мэйбел, которая приводила в порядок свои обгоревшие брови с помощью вазелина и угольной пыли. Он сделал первую попытку производства в 1915 году: смешав вазелин, сажу, хлопковое и сафлоровое масла. Наносив на ресницы полученный крем, он попал в глаза Мэйбел и ей стало больно. Подумав немного, Том решил попросить профессиональной помощи у Парка-Дэвиса, производителя лекарств, чтобы тот подкорректировал его образец. Полученный продукт не содержал красящих компонентов и был назван Lash-Brow-Ine. Продукция была упакована в алюминиевые коробочки двух размеров и продавалась по почтовым заказам. Tom Lyle a vu le potentiel du produit après l’observation de sa sœur, Maybel, qui essayait à récupérer ses sourcils brûlées avec l’aide de la vaseline et de la poudre de charbon. Il a fait le premier essai de production en 1915 en mélangeant la vaseline, la suie, les huiles de coton et de carthame. En mettant cette crème sur ses cils, c’est allé dans les yeux de Maybel et l’a fait très mal. Après avoir réfléchi Tom a décidé de demander l’aide professionnelle de Parke-Davis, producteur de médicament, pour qu’il corrige sa formule. Le produit obtenu ne contenait pas d’ingrédient qui colore et a été appelé Lash-Brow-Ine. Ce produit a été empaqueté dans des boîtes d’aluminium de deux tailles et a été distribué par la vente par correspondance. Il y avait déjà des produits similaires avec des noms similaires sur le marché. Cela a posé quelques problèmes par la suite. En 1917 les laboratoires Maybell et Parke-Davis ont lancé un nouvel produit pour les cils et les sourcils. Elle a été appelée Maybelline (Maybel – le prénom de sa sœur et line – de vaseline) et proposait deux couleurs: noir et marron. Tom Lyle saw the potential of the product after watching his sister, Mabel, while she was fixing her burnt eyebrows with Vaseline and coal dust. He made the first production attempt in 1915 mixing Vaseline, carbon black, cottonseed oil and safflower oil. When Mabel put it on her eyelashes it fell into her eyes and hurt them. After some thoughts he decided to ask a professional help from a drug manufacturer, Parke-Davis, to modify his formula. The derived cream did not contain any coloring component and was named Lash-Brow-Ine. Products were packed into aluminum boxes of two sizes and sold through mail-order. There were already other similar products with similar names on the market and that’s why this name caused some difficulties later on. In 1917, Maybell Laboratories and Parke-Davis launched new product for eyelash and eyebrow. It was named “Maybelline” (Mabel – sister’s name + line – a part of Vaseline) and had two shades, black and brown. In 1920, Tom Lyle lost an appeal over a trademark dispute and could no longer use the name Lash-Brow-Ine. Since then all products took name Maybelline. This is how the story of a famous brand began.

В 1872 году французский парикмахер Франсуа Марсель Грато придумал новый вид завивки волнами при помощи горячих щипцов. Такая прическа получила название «марсельская волна», а щипцы для её завивки – «марсельские щипцы». Марсельская волна выполнялась на сухих волосах при помощи расчески и щипцов, которые нужно было нагреть до необходимой температуры на газовой горелке. Готовили сразу несколько щипцов: первыми укладывали прическу, вторые нагревались, а третьи остывали. По технике Марселя волны получались ровными и не нуждались в фиксаторе. Первоначально марсельские щипцы производились во Франции, но позже так же выпускались и в Германии. Перед началом завивки, парикмахеры проверяли щипцы на листе бумаге, чтобы убедиться, что они не сожгут волосы клиентов. Марсельские щипцы выпускались четырех размеров: A, B, C и D. Начинал Франсуа Марсель с маленького салона для бедного класса на Монмартре в Париже. Чтобы улучшить процесс создания своей новой прически, ему приходилось предлагать свои услуги бесплатно. Ce type de coiffure a été appelé L’Ondulation Marcel et le fer à friser –Le fer Marcel. L’Ondulation Marcel était faite sur cheveux secs avec l’aide d’un peigne et d’un fer à friser lequel il fallait chauffer à température nécessaire sur un brûleur à gaz. On préparait quelques fers en même temps: avec le premier on faisait la coiffure, le deuxième se chauffait et le troisième se refroidissait. Suivant la technique de Marcel les ondules étaient réguliers et n’avaient pas besoin de fixateur. Initialement les fers Marcel étaient produits en France, mais plus tard ils étaient aussi fabriqué en Allemagne. Avant de faire l’ondulations, les coiffeurs essayaient le fer sur un feuille de papier pour être sûr qu’ils ne vont pas brûler les cheveux des clients. Le fer Marcel avait quatre tailles: A, B, C et D. François Marcel avait commencé avec un petit salon pour les classes populaires sur Montmartre à Paris. Pour améliorer le processus d’exécution de sa coiffure il était obligé de proposer ce service gratuitement. Le nombre de ses clients a augmenté quand les gens avaient vu ses premiers jolis coiffures ondulées. Finalement il a pu commencé à recevoir rénumération pour son service. Il est devenu vraiment populaire après avoir fait l’ondulation Marcel pour l’actrice Jane Hading. Un peu plus tard l’ondulation Marcel est devenu populaire en Europe et en Amérique. Les coiffeurs de différents pays venaient exprès à Paris pour apprendre la technique d’ondulation chaude. Au fil du temps François Marcel continuait à améliorer sa méthode d’ondulation, à inventer des variations de coupe et aussi à perfectionner ces fameux fer à friser. In 1872 French hairdresser Francois Marcel Grateau invented a new hairstyle with waves by using hot curling iron. This type of hairstyle was named Marcel Wave and the curling iron he used to make it – Marcel Iron. Marcel Wave was done on dried hair with the help of a comb and a curling iron which needed to be heated up to necessary temperature over a gas burner. They prepared several irons at a time: the first one to make the hairstyle, the second heating and the third cooling down. Following the Marcel’s technique the waves were smooth and did not need any fixator. The earliest curling irons were made in France, but later they were also produced in Germany. Before using the iron, hairdressers tested it on a piece of paper to ensure that it will not burn the client’s hair. Marcel iron had four sizes: A, B, C and D. Francois Marcel started out with a small salon for poorer classes in Montmartre, Paris. In order to improve the process of making his new hairstyle he had to offer his service for free. When people saw his first beautifully waved hairstyles he started to have more customers and finally was able to charge for his service. Marcel became really popular when he made Marcel Wave for the actress Jane Hading. After a while Marcel Wave became popular in Europe and America. Hairdressers from different countries arrived specially in Paris to master the hot waving technique. For a long time Francois Marcel continued to improve his waving method, to invent different versions of styling and also to perfect his famous curling iron.

Вискозное волокно является одним из первых искусственных волокон, нашедших практическое применение. Получено оно было в 1884 графом Шардоннэ. В 1889 изобретение уже было представлено на международной выставке в Париже. Массовый же выпуск вискозы начался после патента английских химиков Кросса, Бевина и Бидла в 1892. Недорогой в производстве и легкий в окрашивании, этот материал стал неплохой альтернативой шёлку, бархату, крепу и льну. В 1920-е производители используют вискозное волокно для массового изготовления недорогих платьев, подкладок, нижнего белья. Технический прогресс помог избавиться от блеска волокна, что в свою очередь позволило его использование в вязаных изделиях. Вискозу применяют и сейчас, но кроме текстиля из нее делают мочалки и целлофан. La rayonne est l'une des premières soies artificielles qui a été mise en œuvre. Obtenue par le comte de Chardonnet en 1884 et elle a été présentée à l’exposition universelle de Paris en 1889. La production en masse de la viscose a commencé après le brevet des chimistes anglais Cross, Bevan et Beadle en 1892. Peu coûteux à fabriquer et facile à teindre, ce tissu est devenu une alternative à la soie, au velours, au crêpe et au lin. Dans les années 1920 les fabricants utilisèrent la rayonne pour la production des robes bon marchées, des doublures, des sous-vêtements. Le progrès technique élimina son brillant superficiel, ce que à son tour permit de l’employer pour les étoffes tricotées. On utilise la viscose même maintenant pas seulement dans le textile mais aussi pour faire des filasses et du cellophane. The rayon is the first artificial silk which had a practical application. Obtained by Hilaire de Chardonnet in 1884 it was shown in Paris exhibition in 1889. A mass production of the viscose started only after the patent of three English chemists Cross, Bevan and Beadle in 1892. Inexpensive for production and easy to dye this fabric became an alternative for silk, velvet, crepe and linen. In the 1920th manufacturers use the rayon to produce cheap dresses, linings, underwear. The technological progress helped to take away the fiber's brightness in its turn it allowed to use the rayon in knitted fabrics. We now use the viscose not only in textile but also to make sponges and cellophane.

Древние Греки уделяли огромное внимание своим прическам. В классической Греции для мужчин было модным иметь короткие, но завитые волосы. Женщины же никогда не стригли свои волосы. За исключением тех, кто был в трауре или в рабстве. Обычно женщины начесывали и завивали волосы. Использовали для этого различные гребешки: из слоновой кости, панциря черепахи, кости, оливкового дерева, бронзы. Выбор материала, конечно же, зависел от богатства. Женщины, как и мужчины, опрыскивали волосы духами или ароматными маслами. У детей были длинные волосы. Девочки особенно любили убирать волосы в «конский хвост». Нельзя так же забывать, что у греков блондины пользовались большой популярностью, т.к. светлые волосы были символом чистоты, принадлежности к богу и высокому социальному статусу. Поэтому прежде, чем они придумали, как можно осветлять волосы, мужчины посыпали готовые прически золотой пылью. Женщины предпочитали мыть волосы в растворе калия и лепестках желтых цветов. Но даже когда всё-таки был разработан долговременный метод осветления волос, изъянов в качестве окрашивания было много. Прическа завершалась добавлением в нее украшений: начиная от цветов и лент и заканчивая гребешками и более изысканными украшениями по случаю больших праздников. Именно благодаря своей легкости и элегантности, греческие прически остаются популярными и по сей день! Les Grecs donnaient beaucoup d'importance à leurs coiffures. Dans l’époque classique les cheveux courts mais bouclés ont été à la mode pour les hommes. Les femmes ne raccourcissaient jamais leurs cheveux (à l’exception d’un deuil ou d’un esclavage). D’habitude les femmes se crêpaient, frisaient et ondulaient les cheveux. Elles ont utilisé pour cela des peignes diffèrents: d’ivoire, d’écailles de tortue, d’os, d’olivier, de bronze. Le choix des matériaux dépendait de la richesse de la personne. Les femmes comme les hommes mettaient dans leur cheveux un peu de parfum ou d’une huile aromatisée. Les enfants portaient les cheveux longs. Les filles aimaient faire une «queue de cheval». Il ne faut pas oublier que les blondes étaient très populaires chez les Greques. Les cheveux claires étaient le symbole de la pureté, appartenance à un Dieu et à un haut statut social. C’est pour cela les hommes saupoudraient leurs coiffures avec de la poudre d’or avant qu’ils aient inventé comment éclaircir les cheveux. Les femmes préféraient de laver leurs cheveux dans la solution de potassium avec des pétales de fleurs jaunes. Malgrès qu’ils aient élaboré une méthode d’ éclaircissement longue terme, il y avait encore des défauts de coloration. La coiffure se terminait avec une petite décoration. Cela pouvait être une fleur, des rubants ou même des peignes. Pour les grandes fêtes ils mettaient des bijoux plus raffinés. C’est sûrtout grâce à son élégance et sa légèreté que le style des coiffures greques restent si populaire jusqu’à nos jours ! The Greeks paid a lot of attention to their hair. Women as well as men sprayed some perfume or fragrant oil on their hair. Children had long hair. Girls liked to make “ponytails”. We can’t forget that blonds were very popular in ancient Greece. Light hair was a symbol of purity, God belonging and high society status. That’s why men put some gold powder on their finished hairstyle. Women preferred to wash their hair in solution of potassium with yellow flower’s petals. Even when they invented the long-term hair brightening method, there were still some coloration imperfections. The hairstyle could be finished with some decoration like flowers, bands, combs and even more refined jewelry for big festive occasion. The lightness and elegancy of the Greek hairstyle made it popular till nowadays!

Ballet Précieux!

Грация и легкость застывших балерин, занавес парижской Гранд Опера!.. Невозможно оторвать глаз от коллекции высокого ювелирного искусства «Ballet Précieux» от Van Cleef & Arpels. Эта коллекция вдохновлена балетом «Драгоценности» Арпельса и Баланчина 1967 года. Балет был посвящен трем драгоценным камням. Первый акт – зеленому изумруду, под аккомпанемент романтической музыки Форе и с тенью Парижа. Во второй части главный – красный рубин на музыку Стравинского с небольшим оттенком Америки. Помню, мы в тетрадках делали огромные дома для них. Помимо красивых спален, гостиных и прочих комнат, обязательно имелось несколько гардеробных комнат! Иначе уместить все их наряды было не возможно! Жаль, не могу вам сейчас показать мои альбомчики. Я очень любила создавать для них новые наряды, да и в комплекте с ними не всегда всё было! А вы рисовали одежду для бумажных модниц? Почему я вдруг вспомнила эту забаву детства? На официальном сайте Фонда Пьера Берже и Ива Сен-Лорана появились архивы работ Сен-Лорана. Так вот, там есть и раздел, посвященный бумажным платьям и куклам-моделям, созданным еще в 1953-1955 годах! Кроме того, что там можно увидеть 11 кукол, огромное количество нарядов, аксессуаров, вы найдете там даже программы показа «игрушечных» коллекций Сен-Лорана, а так же сможете примерить на понравившуюся куклу представленные наряды! Pourquoi tout d’un coup je me souviens ce passe-temps d’enfance ? Ainsi, il y a une partie consacrée aux robes et poupées-modèles en papier, crée en 1953-1955 ! Мушки делали из бархата или тафты и использовали не только в виде аксессуара или чтобы спрятать недостатки кожи, но и для передачи информации. Этот тайный язык был очень популярен при фаворитке французского короля, Маркизе де Помпадур. Этикет тех лет не позволял женщинам открыто говорить о своих чувствах. Что же означает расположение родинки: • в середине лба – надеяться на расположение девушки не стоит • на кончике носа – однозначный отказ • в уголке рта – о благосклонности • над верхней губой – желание пококетничать • в складочке улыбки – игривость • у левого глаза – страстность чувств • на подбородке – скромность Но не только расположение могло иметь скрытое значение.
